Charlie edmiston
Charlie Edmiston (b. 1987) is an American visual artist based in Los Angeles, California. He studied painting at Otis College of Art and Design. His early career in graffiti served as the foundation for his current practice, including large- scale mural installation, painting, sculpture and design.
Edmiston's work explores the boundaries of color, form and material in a manner evocative of mid-century modernists. His unconventional palette choice, along with the unique composition of shapes, command attention in any environment.
Perhaps what is most remarkable about such genre-defying work is how elegantly inviting it is. In an era where many artists pursue a confrontational style, overwhelming the viewer with a crassness of imagery, and chaotic distortions of pop culture iconography, Edmiston's works function with a Zen-like grace.
“I think the overall feeling is happiness and positivity. I’m an abstract artist – I have to use shapes and colors, the visual language, to tell a story. Through the usage of colors, I want people to instantly crack a smile or just get happy or feel positive.”
Edmiston's distinctive style has gained international recognition with projects and exhibitions in Asia, Europe and North America. Recent exhibitions include the Museum of Art and History Lancaster, CA, Local Hoops, NY, Octavia Gallery, New Orleans, LA, ABV Gallery Atlanta, GA, Perg Gallery, Frankfurt, Germany, Art-Gallery.be, Knokke, BE, Think-space Gallery, Miami, FL, and Urban Art Fair - Avenue des Arts, Paris, France.
